nevertheless.. after sch ends going with

hopefully its nt a decision i will regret..

im left with about $95 for 3 weeks..
can go kill myself already..
but lucky next 2 weeks is exam..
so i should just force myself to stay @ home and study..

i just realised about my family history from my mum..
perhaps some dramas do depict real life stories.
i always thought my mum divorced my dad due to his gambling habits..
in fact there were debts that my mother had to pay for him..
a useless father.
a guy who left my mum and 3 children behind..
a guy who left a huge debt for my mother to pay off..
a guy that didnt wan access to his own children.
a guy whose face is so vague i cant even picture it in my head.
a guy nt fit to be with my mother.
a guy nt fit to be my father.

i never probed into this problem before.
i even wanted to look for him ONE DAY..
and acknowledge him one day if he happen to be rich..
even if i could have all the money in the world.
no way. better hope i dun see the guy when im in emerg. dept.

now im determined to give my mum allowance no matter wat..
she has worked hard enough.
teared when she told me the worst 3 weeks
she ever lived in her life

Phantom Knights Cohesion Ride

9th May 2009

hahaha.. glad i was part of it..

whr phantom or ex phantom riders come together,

and as a convoy travelled the round island expressways

total took abt an hour plus starting from,

champions way in wlds

to yishun dam

once reaching the damn as a long 24 bike strong convoy,

we simply stole the show.

made alot of new frens and another ride is on its way!

stay tune.

year 3 has been stressful.

more stressful den wat i thought it was going to be.

oh well. going to chiong ah.

last sem in sch anyway.

been ages since attachment was over..
many many things have happened.
many of which life-changing decision i had to make.
glad i made them..

attachment at 63C was only SLIGHTLY better den expected
and we got back the same CI as year 1 sem 1 posting!

apparently like every other hospital the students all took cases..
but we never really did..
but i did twice.. last 2 days of the attachment.. better den nothing i guess..
the first time needed alot of help...

refer msw.. so cool..

and anyway.. was so close to change to sportsbike on sat..
i went down to change the clutch pad shit den looked around..

apparently.. my aunt is going to take her driving license.
she said 100% she gonna get a car.. weekend car that is..
as she is working in town and its nt worth it
to get a normal car and head to town.
so she said i can take the weekdays if i got license..
i was like stun..

but it means i can drive 7pm to 7am..
thats still kinda cool..
this is like the only chance perhaps i can drive..
obviously i dun have the money to buy a car..
this is the closest i get...

PICS FROM IMH ATTACHMENT

i just heard..

one of the patient that i cared for has passed away recently..

i did realise he got weaker by the day

and he had cancer..

but still.. 2nd i patient i knew who died..

but the first patient who was under my care died..

we talked to each other during my attachment..

i rmb saying bye to him on the last day of attachment..

asking him to take his medication..

and drink more water and eat more..

now he's gone..

i guess it'll be worse if i was there to witness it

and im dead...

bio exam today...

totally blank..

so going to fail..

hopefully gt supp paper that wouldnt affect attachment much..
mental health den abnormal pysch and im free..

today is wed..
2nd week sch has started..
mon got a call frm a lecture for video shoot..
apparently it was a photoshoot for nursing.
some promotion of course thing
which required me to say a pre determined script
and needed to me lie through my teeth for all..
okok.. maybe nt lie.. bt.. somethings that i said..
might not even have been wat i would have said.

first scene i wore purple scrubs..
on first day which was tue..
and i when i wore april 77's shirt, she said cannot..
so she gave me money to by giordano..
imagine.. giordano cover april. wah lan deh..

apparently the next day which is today..
she say the shots we took ytd cannot be used
due to some problems with the script..
so we re shoot everything.. some new locations..
and slight modifications to the script..
all ended well.. and i'll appear in NYP website!!!
HAHAH.. whr i dunno.. but on thu..

and im going to take a break from riding..
kinda tired from the riding..
all the wind, extreme heat and cold, traffic,
stupid drivers, debris and shit.
a couple of close calls..
but nth major.. something im proud of..
and dun intend to change or jinx it..

sch has started
im so bored and sian i cant believe it

anyway.. 2 weeks of riding has made me realise a few things

1) ANYWHERE beside a big truck is a blindspot.
2) most drivers pass u only an arm's length away.
3) carpark slope at sun plaza sucks
4) it hurts to be in the rain while riding on the bike
5) i can travel 48km for every little of fuel on a phantom
6) cars have blindspots that drivers dont check

riding has been fun though troublesome at times
gonna try to explore the roads a bit more so i can be street smart!
test and projects are coming..
and little or no preparation is done..

this is the last week for the first half of this sem.
tmr is thu..
my big day.. nvr ending big day.
TP test is here again.. and im still nt passing it.
wonder how i can fail so many times.

and i forgot to pass my card to classmates to help tap lor.

anyway.. im really hoping i can pass it.

second.. it has been very long.

And today was Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) theory test.
passing mark 24/30..
i think i can get it.

im doubting where my course is leading me.

it has been training almost 1000 ppl every year,

to become registered nurses.

they have taught and will teach them theories

that they are required to know to carry out their duties.

tested them on practical skills so that they are

competent enough to head out there and perform like 2nd nature.

slowly from simple tasks. taking vital signs and feeding.

to now the slightly more complex I/V therapy, medications and injections.

which will further evolve into skills

that are required for specialized areas like the operating theatre.

skills and theory is something almost everyone who will pass out

ought and believed to have grasped.

but. slowly from year3. you are required to be able to take care

up to 12 patients in a shift.

its nt difficult those of u might say if youre not in it.

your duties would include:

knowing your patients.

all 12. their diagnosis. care plan. procedures to be done.

lab results. social and medical history.

serving of medications to 12 patients.

knowing the kinetics and adverse reactions.

i/v therapy. Normal saline, Dextrose, Blood products, Medications.

dealing with complaints from relatives and patients.

and of all.. writing reports.

nursing the table.. some might say.

something i fear the most.

nursing the table.. is characterized by a registered nurse

who does their daily duties and after completion, sits down

and writes the endless reports. treating each patients as an agenda

for the day and ends it when there are no longer

any jobs left to do for the patient.

the nurse would not know the feelings of the patient

as there is no socializing.

when my lecturer in charge asked me earlier this sem,

whether i regretted nursing..

i confidentally said no.

now..

i jus want to take it back.

went to seoul garden to celebrate carson birthday!

3 weeks of attachments.. OVER!
was at NHC or national heart centre ward 56.
taking care of patients who undergo Cardio Thoraic Surgery (CTS)
but mainly the patients are there for heart problems.
patients are young and old.
coming in for many diagnosis and variety of surgeries.

was at B side for the first week. B2 and C class patients are housed there..
busy like a bee!
serving urinals, changing diapers, bathing patients..
might seem little... bt repeating this 7 hrs a day.
and to perhaps 10-12 patients is almost a chore.
but satisfaction comes when they understand you are there to help.
and are extremely grateful.

2nd week at A side. Where patients of A1 and B1 patients were house at.
enjoyed the pace. As for the B1 there were only 5 patients a room.
the most enjoyable time in the 3 weeks..
lots of laughter and backstabbing with the staff.. HAHA..
seeing patients slowly recover.. is something you will never get bored of.
seeing 1 who jus lies in bed. hearing and speech impaired.
almost couldnt get anything done including feeding himself..
slowly he fed himself the milo subsequently the lunch that was served.
could see him propping his bed up most the time..
at least he didnt lie down! haha.. and getting more energetic and all!

Last week. I was at central. or in ward it was HD or High D.
Or high dependency. Where patients after going to the CTSICU after op would go.
here.. the patients are in a rather stable condition.
though i had the chance to send 2 patients back into ICU
due to change in the condition of patient.
i would say its a very exciting experience to go along with the staff nurse
and a doctor into the icu... the rush of adrenaline..
everything is almost chaotic. but in it.. lies order.
all i could do? hook up the oxygen. prepare the things that the staff nurse might require..
and push hard.. basically we were almost jogging to the icu.

cdc posting is done.
2 weeks of hell.. over..
dont deny the fact tat the staff there made it enjoyable.
in fact i think every posting the staff is great.
cdc has increased my understanding of infectious diseases
and how we can protected ourselves while nursing them.
the first week of my posting was with the NUS ppl.
it was ok.. their understanding of everything was lik wow..
they can ask questions lik crazy..

have nt been updating.. so since i have time b4 my shift

i decided to update. HAHAA..

paeds posting was fun!

although there were screaming kids and stuff..

some were nice to play with.

it was more enjoyable when u had good ppl to work with

im currently having posting at cdc ward 91.

the gate of no return.

finding this place is crazy.

on the map it seems so close.

in fact its a 15-20 mins walk.

and its the same duration for u to go find food.

so basically walk to ttsh. eat. walk back. = 1hr.

no break as in for rest.

decided to bring food frm now.

it can store up to 2 bodies.

today is the first day of kk posting!!!
slept at 1plus and woke up 510am..
wat a way to start your day!
met up zul and dilys at little india mrt station at 630..
walked there and reached there in time to find out there were
lik 11 other student nurses in e same shift in the same ward.
kinda alot.. coz usually lik 10 for 1 ward over 2 shift was the norm..

didnt noe wat to expect for this posting..
expected scream parents along with screaming kids..
at least i hoped for kids lik in kindergarten kind.
end up.. is lik those less den 3 yrs old..
its kinda sad to see some patients/kids in their conditions.
they go through wat adults go through perhaps worse..
some.. dun even open their eyes.. other jus stay in bed..
and others.. try to burst ur ear drums and treat the ward as their race track.
tis ward aint tat busy.. bt alot of things to learn..

1 week of holidays have gone.

i guess i didnt really spent it wisely enough..

forcing myself to pass my last prac which almost seems impossible..

2 weeks of attachments have passed.
and here are the updates.
polyclinic attachment for tat first week was a bore.
there were nth we could do nt even vital signs.
for tat whole 1 week we jus stood there observed and asked questions.

boring as it is. we actually learned many things.
stuff lik the different immunisations and care for an infant.
stuff lik tat. nth tat was much to mention.
except a couple of friendly nurses who wanted to help..
the rest jus suck. bt well.. it aint tat bad.

now im halfway through my other posting at a med ward.
ward 72 haema ward. a ward tat deals wit blood disorders.
patients are mainly on chemo.
with bone marrow aspiration (BMA) and lumbar punture (LP)
are norms in the ward.

first we met sister CK. i thought i was lucky as she was funny and friendly.
den i went to the ward.
i dont deny there are good staff nurses around. willing to teach.
spend the time to talk to u.
unlike some others who would rather keep quiet.

ive learnt many things from this ward as it is a specialized ward.
u get the young and old at the same place for 1 reason.
the diagnosis.
in this attachment i saw the reason y very little ppl joins nursing.
they obviously think they should receive care from no smaller den a RN
student nurses suck at everything they do.
student nurses are unable to anything on their own.

my sister as in biological sister nt the ward kind of sister told me something she said to a pt.

pt : er nurse, can help my father change her diaper? i dont want the student nurse
to do it. they are very rough in doing such stuff.

my sister: jus to let u noe. student nurses are better at doing such stuff coz they are
so afraid of hurting the pt.

makes sense. for the few times in my life i agree wit my sister.
no student nurse = no staff nurse
no staff nurse = someone u cannot ask for ur quality care.

still wan press call bell and say i nvr call student nurse. i called staff nurse.
its ok. next time i will add more functions to the stupid bed of urs.
1 button to call nurse. another jus to call staff nurses.
i can more or less say. if there are student nurses ard.
ur chances of getting a staff nurse AFTER pressing the NURSE call button is higher.
den u pressing the STAFF NURSE call button.

bt ive met better pts.
lik david. he would be one of the few i would consider a role model.
his interpersonal skills and way he talks jus makes ppl stop and listen.
cant explain much. u have to noe it for urself.

yea ive been busy for the whole chinese new year.
ive been working at thai accent.
thought i was double pay. bt its nt.

ive passed my prac 1 in 2 tries. hopefully the rest will be as successful.

ok fine. i'll do some updating. HAHA.
birthday was a blast.
0716 celebrated for me in sch. lighted my candle wit MY lighter
yea.. with cake, boxers, pizzas, bike model and something
i treasure alot frm b.

on the 31st of jan i waited for 12 midnight.
so i could register for my bike.. waited for so long and finally it came.
registered and went through the lessons.
booked for prac and trial theory test.

den on 1st feb invited some frens over for steamboat. ate lik pigs.
haha.. yea.. enjoyable.

a couple of days later i took my trial theory.
i failed.. sad.
aft tat i booked another trial on sun.
hopefully i pass den i go take riding theory itself.

today i had my first prac.
i reached at around 1120. sat around. registered.
had my orientation of the bike.
the instructor explained the details and we had to lik put the bike
off the main stand. on to side stand. off side stand. on main stand.
had alot of difficulty doing it.
the bike was jus so damn heavy lah..
den aft tat gt the technique so it wasnt so bad.
finished my orientation abt an hour later. half an hour to eat and wait for prac.

finally 105pm.
my prac started.
first i had to learn how to paddle the bike at neutral.
aft tat. practiced on half clutch and braking.
continued on with switching frm 1st gear to 2nd gear.
and playing around with the brakes.
den learn how to change frm 2nd to 1st gear when u stop.
i stalled my engine lik 8 time throughout tis whole thing.

my mistakes:

lik to put my hand on the clutch even though im nt using it.

brake wit 2 fingers as if im riding bicycle.

and finally i completed the switching of gears.
took a break and carried on in the main circuit.
the instructor led us through switching as high as we could.
i managed to switch to 4th gear only once coz all the cars lik to block. damn.
HAHA.. bt more or less its abt how we slow down to a stop frm 2nd gear.
how to break. and half clutch control.

things to rmb.

to come to a stop frm 2nd gear.

release throttle.
brake slightly.
clutch in.
tap down twice.
change to neutral or remain in first gear wit clutch in.

wat a fucking week. nth is going right for me.

start of the day and it sucks.
nurul sent me the presentation slides as she was told.
i wanted to print it since i had a printer put inside my room.
end up the printer print half way den nvr print.
so i decided to use the desktop.
as there was another printer connected to it.
jus when i was rdy to print. the desktop auto shut down.
and after that it couldnt be turned on again.
by tis time i was late.

so i decided to use my mother's laptop to connect to the desktop printer.
and guess wat. i had to download the driver as the cd was lost.
so i went to hp's website to download.
it showed that it had to take lik an hour plus for it to be downloaded.
pissed and sweating. i had to rush to the sch business blocks for printing.

took a cab down and freaking cost me $12.
realli twice as much as wat it would have cost me last time.
so i waited for nurul they all to come out
so i can see whether she could use my external harddrive.
in the end no break. so i went over to the shs bookshop to see if they fixed the com.
it was nt as expected and i went over to business block.

i thought finally can print den the business bookshop person
say muz come back later as they doing up anti virus scan.
pissed i asked around. sk told me some other place have.
bt i couldnt find it. den i asked nurul. nurul said school of IT can print.
looked high and low for it finally found it.
and there was tis bunch of ppl printing lik a tree of papers.
waited for god noes how long for my paper.

and after sch i went for my floorball game.
my pissed day didnt jus in the morning.
i wanted come play and relax and all.
as my fren who asked me to join said its jus something to noe new frens.

well.. for the past week.. nth has gone my way..

couldnt realli slp ytd.
i thought abt each and every part of life changing experience i had in 17 yrs.
to my surprise. there were many.
blessings.. nt so much.. possibly being able to count wit ur hands..

nursing has in a way opened my eyes to the little world of mine.
seeing pain and suffering.
bt i have yet to see life and death.
which i guess will be another part of my life changing experience.

helping out wit my mum's clinic's mass vaccination thingy..
sat.. went to IMM to dilute the meningoccal dunno wat shit..

preparing and drawing out the vaccine.. quite fun..

today is the first week im experiencing without my attachment..
feels as though i have something missing out in my life..
everytime i wanna noe wat time is it,

yup.. 2nd week into the attachment..
everything now seems like a norm.
at least routine lah.. bt kinda expected how many things u wanna learn?
other than perhaps helping a pt off iv...

aft abt a week of attachment..
im feeling the pressure... and most probably noe y ppl quit nursing..
especially aft their first attachment..
there are... 'smells' u need to get used to.. and nt everyone can get used to it..
staff nurses still puke...
and there are those big **** nurses u have to endure...
and worse of all.. seeing many pt who needs help.. and are nt getting it..

if u ask me.. most pt only wan attention.. personalized attention frm nurses..
i guess some would rather die den get treated the way they are treated..
to 'SAVE PAMPERS FOR THE CLIENT'
they are willing to let the client soil himself and nt change the diapers..
until another 15 mins..
tat poor guy almost cried... anyway.. a yr 2 nurse and me went ahead to change his diapers for him..
and hell the nurse was shocked to see.. he BO until his whole diapers almost burst... i mean.. WTF..
do u shit in ur pants and nt change it until later so u have more pants to wear?
ure nt making any sense.. ASS..
and wat do we learn in theory.. say wat muz protect the rights of the pt..
if i had 3 middle fingers i would have pointed all of them..

ha. so today was the first day of the attachment..
BORING.. at least it wasnt as fun i thought it would be..
went in the morning.. left at abt 630.. and as i was on the way to the mrt..
the staring started.. yup.. since i boarded the lift..
on my way to the mrt and of course the most obvious on the mrt..
maybe they havent seen a male NYP nurse before..
maybe.. i juz look weird in it.. i dunno.. LOL..
so met up with most of the ppl having their attachment at sgh at outram..
other den jannah and xinyi.. whom we met later at sgh..
so they day begun with a crappy talk.. abt the overview of the hospital and stuff
den i tink we went for a short break..
had polar chicken pie.. OMG.. so nice.. LOL..
den went back again for hospital tour if im nt wrong..
so went around sgh.. looking at places.. nt very interesting...
me and zul were in another group while the rest were in another grp..
the other went into the A&E dept.. which we didnt go.. and they saw some stuff..
which due to 'patient confidentiality' i cant disclose the details..
and we saw the D.O.A. room which patient who were brought in dead..
would be placed in the room.. so kinda creepy i guess..
so aft all tat crap somemore lecture thingy abt infection control and we left
so tml is the ward orientation.. bored..

clinical is OVER.. passed..
little thnx to my model zul..
cock up with temp taking..
took 3 temp readings to confirm his temp..
den end up i totally forgot normal temp range..
wth.. LOL.. NGT feeding went well..
